Amanda Deadman was born in Malta in 1964 when her Father was stationed there with the Royal Navy and moved back to the UK settling on the South coast. From an early age she showed a talent and interest in painting and drawing and very quickly became proficient at most techniques, studying art, ceramics, textiles, design and photography from the age of eleven. She completed her art foundation year at Portsmouth Art College and then went on to gain a Bachelor of Arts degree in 3D Design, (Glass & Photography) at West Surrey College of Art and Design. Amanda has been painting aviation subjects since 1985, when she was involved with gliding and power flying. Friends started asking her to paint portraits of their aircraft and things developed from there. She joined The Guild of Aviation Artists in 1987 and in 1989 she won the Pooley Airtour Sword for the best sport flying painting. At the 2006 Aviation Paintings of the Year exhibition Amanda won the TN Lawrence Art Materials prize for the best gliding painting. |
